5:30 PM → 1730, said “seventeen thirty”. Add 12 to any PM hour except 12 PM.

Midnight and noon

12:00 AM → 0000 (“zero hundred”), 12:00 PM → 1200. 12:15 AM is 0015.

Morning

7:05 AM → 0705, said “oh seven oh five”. Morning hours keep their number with a leading zero.

How it is calculated

For PM times from 1:00 to 11:59, add 12 to the hour; 12 PM stays 12; 12 AM becomes 00. Write the hour with two digits and drop the colon. To convert back, subtract 12 from hours 13–23 and add PM; 00 becomes 12 AM.
