It is printed on most pay stubs and in the payroll portal. If neither shows it, take the balance at your last known point and let the calculator project forward.

Why does the projected balance not match payroll exactly?

Payroll accrues on its own schedule and may round differently, apply the cap at a different moment, or count only some hours. The calculator counts whole pay periods from today, so a date two days before a payday shows one period fewer.

Some employers allow borrowing against future accrual; the calculator does not, it floors the balance at zero and shows how far short you are through the planned hours.

Start from the balance on your last pay stub, add how fast it grows and the days you have already booked, and read the balance you will have on the date you pick. Use it before you book a trip, before the year-end cap, or to check the number payroll shows.

Worked examples

Enough for a two-week trip?: Balance 30 h, 4 h per biweekly period, trip in 12 periods needing 80 h: 30 + 48 = 78 h. Two hours short; move the trip one period or book a day unpaid.
Year-end cap: Balance 100 h with a 120 h cap, 6 h per period, 8 periods left: the cap is hit after four periods and 24 hours are lost unless taken.

How it is calculated

Balance on the date = balance today + per-period accrual × whole pay periods until then − planned time off, taken evenly across the periods, and never more than the cap. Pay periods are counted from today: every 7 days weekly, 14 biweekly, 15.2 semi-monthly, 30.4 monthly.
